On the edge of the great Sahara rises the majestic Ouarzazate, a quiet Berber city. Here you find a fascinating mixture between oasis, Kasbahs and blooming valleys. The Berbers were the first known inhabitants of this area. In the 7th century A.D. the region was islamised. On their long way between the Sudan and Marrakesh or Fez the transsahara caravans had to cross this region. The French built Ouarzazate in 1928 as a garrison city on a desert plateau over which all the winds from the Sahara sweep.
